Program Detail

The Professional Master’s in Mining Industry Management builds on a rigorous foundation of mining engineering, mineral economics and business analytics, bridging the gap between technical operations and executive management. By integrating organizational behavior with financial strategy, the program develops the precision needed to lead global mining enterprises. 

You will master advanced project valuation and operational optimization, gaining the ability to manage complex mineral supply chains and lead digital transformation initiatives. Graduates develop the technical expertise and leadership acumen required to manage multidisciplinary teams and navigate the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) challenges of the modern global mining industry.

As a Professional Master’s in Mining Industry Management student, you will complete 33 credit hours, including an independent project where you apply your new skills and knowledge to a real-world project in the mining industry. Each course is delivered over a 6-8 week period, building on your existing mining and engineering knowledge and broadening your perspectives regarding current and future mining best practices.

Edgar Experimental Mine

The Edgar Experimental Mine is a historic silver and gold mine that now serves as an underground classroom and interdisciplinary laboratory for Mines students and researchers. Located just 30 minutes from campus, the mine provides hands-on experience in underground mine surveying, geological mapping, rock fragmentation and blasting, mine ventilation field studies, rock mechanics instrumentation, mine unit operations, mine safety, quantum research and more.

Explosives Research Laboratory

The Explosives Research Laboratory investigates explosive applications such as rock fragmentation, explosive properties, explosive welding, explosive synthesis and the effect of explosives on structures and humans. Led by Associate Professor Veronica Eliasson, the lab is focused on developing practical solutions for unique applications in partnership with industry and government.

Kroll Institute for Extractive Metallurgy

The Kroll Institute for Extractive Metallurgy (KIEM) supports the minerals, metals and materials industries through cutting-edge research. Led by Professor Corby Anderson, the institute focuses on the process of extractive metallurgy regardless of application, including processing of waste materials and the development of clean technologies, improved commercial operations, new minerals-based by-products and chemical processing of materials.
