Program Design

This master’s thesis program combines advanced coursework with independent research, preparing candidates for careers in industry or government or further study at the PhD level. You will take graduate-level courses in areas such as algorithms, software engineering, computer systems, data systems, computational methods and selected topics aligned with your interests. Coursework can be tailored to support your research focus while maintaining a strong computer science core.

The thesis is a defining component of the program. You will collaborate with a faculty advisor to identify a research question, design and implement solutions and evaluate results. Research may involve software development, theoretical analysis, system design or applied computational studies. The degree concludes with a thesis and presentation to a committee of three computer science faculty including your advisor that demonstrates technical depth and clarity of communication.

Pervasive Computing Systems Research Group

The Pervasive Computing Systems Research Group designs algorithms, develops techniques and builds systems to enable pervasive and mobile computing applications. Led by Professor Qi Han, the group’s focus includes swarm/networked robot systems, mobile sensing, Internet of Things and multi-user augmented reality.
