By applying physics, mathematics, and data to the Earth and engineered systems, these fields help locate fresh water and energy resources, evaluate sites for underground construction and waste containment, monitor aging infrastructure and reduce risks from geohazards such as earthquakes, landslides, volcanoes and avalanches. They are also used to support national security efforts, study changing environmental conditions, and even explore other planets.

A Geophysics and Geophysical Engineering minor from Colorado School of Mines gives you the tools to understand and interpret what is happening below the surface when direct observation is not possible.
